New Church Definitions

1. Mother/Daughter New Churches – These new congregations are sponsored by one or more existing churches, either by investing members, funding or staff to assist in launching a new congregation.  The primary distinction from another ministry within the existing sponsoring church has to do with intent: to become a separate worshipping congregation.

2. Multi-Congregational – These ministries have multiple congregations under the organizational structure of one church.  At times, they share a property, conducting distinct and multiple worship services.

3. Multi-Site Congregations – A sponsoring church may launch multiple congregations in various locations to reach new groups of unchurched.  They can worship at different times and locations, while sharing staff or hearing the same sermon, either live or recorded.

4. Multi-Cultural – These new churches intentionally enfold multiple cultures into one fellowship, with various ministry affinity overall groups and a common worship experience.

5. Emergent – These new congregations place high value in worship expression through the arts, while holding to orthodox Christian practices in worship.  Emergent forms of worship continue to evolve, appealing predominantly to college age and young adult believers.

6. Compassionate Ministry Center – Some new communities of faith begin as a compassionate ministry in a sponsoring church.  As people come to faith, are discipled into a fellowship, they desire to worship together as a group and form a new congregation.
